Be well

What are a healthy working conditions for a person staring at a screen all day?

  1. E-ink display instead of a traditional backlit screen
  2. Ergonomic keyboard
  3. Ergonomic mouse
  4. A desk which allows a sitting and a standing position
  5. Correct setup of the three aforementioned tooling
  6. Take a 5 to 10-minute break every hour from work

Reason: dopamine
How? You have a pool of dopamine every day to work with, the faster it depletes the harder it is to stay emotionally on a healthy level all day long. The fact of looking at a computer screen uses this precious resource of yours.
How much did this took you? All the time. I started, perhaps 3 years ago, when the first signs of burning out hit me.
Why are you sharing all this? I want to help the world, instead of waiting for it to burn it down.

Every item from the list can increase one’s overall mental health assuming they all being applied to the actual person’s need. For example standing too much standing can hurt one in the long run and can be a lot of source of pain, if the person in question is used to sitting all they.

Ideas outside of work for more improvements:

  1. Regular Omega-3 intake to help fuel the brain (available in the form of fish oil table)
  2. Buy a proper bike and get a bike fit (guide 1 and guide 2) on it. It is one of the best way to undo all those time spent sitting. This will help activate the glutes muscle again, which can suffer from the fact of sitting a lot.
